Properties of FAST ML-5 Molybdenum Disulfide Coatings

Download TDS

Composition

  • A  layer of Molybdenum Disulfide <5 microns thick

  • Molecular weight of 160 g/mol

  • Density of 4.5 g/cc

  • Non-magnetic

  • Blue -Silver metallic color

Compatible Substrates

  • All ferrous and non-ferrous metals and selective man-made solids and plastics.

  • However, the harder the substrate, the better the bond.

  • Can be applied to any surface finish but is most effective on surface finish of Ra 197 or less

Temperature Range

  • -185°C to 350°C  in normal atmosphere

  • -185 to 1100°C in vacuum at 10-14 Torr

  • Load Capacity/Pressure: Same as substrate up to ~250,000 psi or 1720MPa

Corrosion Prevention

  • With Supplementary Treatment – Excellent corrosion resistance

  • W/O Supplementary Treatment – Delays corrosion, slightly superior to bare substrate

Coefficient of Friction

  • As low as .02 to .06 - This will be dependent on the humidity, cleanliness, and sliding conditions of your application. Our tested results.

Chemical Stability

  • Inert, non-toxic, and non-corrosive

  • Accepts petrochemical oils and greases, synthetic oils, silicone lubricants and hydraulic fluids.

Lox Compatibility

  • Insensitive to detonation by or in the presence of oxygen

Adhesion

  • High velocity impingement applied at ambient air temperature.

  • 0-8hr ambient air cure time

Thickness of coating

  • Maximum of 5um (.0002")

Hardness

  • 1 - 1.5 Mohs' or 29.1 Vickers

Molybdenum Disulfide properties described above lead to numerous application uses:

  • Friction and wear reduction

  • Anti-seize / anti-galling / anti-fretting

  • Plastic mold release and flow enhancement

  • Co-lubrication enhancement in combination with oils and greases

  • Co-deposit with Ni, Cr, Ti and many other coatings

  • In place of conventional lubricants in high-vacuum/temperature situations
